Environment Design Consultation

The right environment regulates before you even say a word.
Early Learning

The environments children learn, play and engage in have a powerful impact on their regulation, learning and participation.

We work alongside your team to understand how your environment is supporting the children and educators who use it, and where small or significant changes could make a difference. From dedicated regulation spaces to practical adjustments within existing rooms, we bring an occupational therapy and sensory lens to the way your spaces work.

What we consider.

Five interconnected dimensions shape how children regulate, participate and connect within a space.

The BLOOM sensory room lit in blue with a suspended swing and soft floor cushions

Lighting

How natural, artificial and adjustable lighting influences comfort, regulation and alertness throughout the day.

Waiting lounge with rounded seating pods seen through vertical timber battens

Acoustics

How noise levels, sound flow and acoustic demands affect regulation, attention and participation.

Curved studio corridor lined with framed children's artwork and herringbone timber floor

Layout & Flow

How movement, access, visibility and transitions through a space support children and educators.

Sensory Zoning

Creating intentional areas for movement, calm, focus and play, giving children access to different sensory experiences throughout the day.

Furniture & Materials

Considering furniture, textures, colours and materials in relation to sensory needs, accessibility and how each space is used.

HIA Small Business Commercial Build Award

Our own studio puts these principles into practice.

Our purpose-built Broadview studio was designed around regulation, participation and connection, considering everything from acoustics and lighting to sensory zoning, materials and flow. Its design was recognised with an HIA Small Business Commercial Build Award, giving us a real-world environment in which these principles are lived every day.

Practical recommendations for your space.

Every consultation is tailored to your centre, your environment and the children and educators who use it. You’ll receive clear recommendations your team can put into practice, helping you make considered changes with confidence.

Depending on the scope of your consultation, this may include:

  • Recommendations for existing rooms and learning environments
  • Sensory zoning and regulation strategies
  • Suggestions around lighting, acoustics, furniture, materials and flow
  • Visual layout concepts
  • Prioritised recommendations or implementation planning
