Our assessments help build a clearer picture of your child’s strengths, needs and everyday experiences.
Sometimes you’re looking for answers to something you’ve been noticing. Sometimes you need a particular assessment for the NDIS or to help plan future supports. And sometimes you simply want to understand your child more deeply.
Our paediatric Occupational Therapists use evidence-informed assessment, observation and clinical reasoning to look beyond a single score or diagnosis. You’ll receive a comprehensive written report with practical recommendations to help you understand what the findings mean and what may be helpful next.
Assessments can be accessed as a stand-alone service or alongside ongoing therapy at Motivate Kids. We also welcome referrals from external OTs and other health professionals.
Finding the right assessment for your child
Each assessment looks at a different part of your child’s development and everyday life. Explore the options below to learn more about what each assessment can help you understand.
Understanding your child’s strengths, support needs and everyday life.
Functional Capacity Assesment
A Functional Capacity Assessment looks at how your child manages everyday life across home, school and the community. It may be helpful when preparing for NDIS planning or review, seeking evidence of support needs, navigating a transition, or wanting a clearer picture of the support your child needs.
The assessment brings together information about your child’s strengths, daily functioning, environments and supports into a comprehensive report with individualised recommendations.
Understanding how your child processes and responds to the world around them.
Sensory Assessments (EASI)
A Sensory Assessment may be helpful if your child becomes overwhelmed by noise, touch or busy environments, seeks lots of movement, finds some everyday routines difficult, or you want to better understand their sensory needs.
Using the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI), our EASI-certified paediatric OTs build a detailed picture of your child’s sensory strengths and differences, with practical recommendations for home, school and therapy.
Primitive Reflex Assessment
A Primitive Reflex Assessment may be helpful if your child finds balance, coordination, handwriting, attention or regulation challenging, or seems to use a lot of effort to manage everyday tasks.
Our trained paediatric OTs assess early movement patterns to explore whether retained primitive reflexes may be one part of the picture. You’ll receive a comprehensive report, practical recommendations and guidance around any next steps.
Not sure which assessment you need?
You don’t need to have it all worked out before getting in touch.
Tell us a little about your child, what you’re noticing and what you’re hoping to better understand. Our team can help you work out whether an assessment may be helpful and which option is the best fit.
Referrer note: Referrals for assessment-only welcome from other OTs and allied health professionals.
