Intensive Therapy

Focused support. Meaningful progress.
Children & Families

Sometimes a more focused approach can help things move forward.

Intensive Therapy provides a shorter period of more frequent, individualised therapy, with sessions closely focused around a small number of meaningful goals.

It can be helpful when your child would benefit from more opportunities to practise and build a particular skill, when progress has slowed, or when a concentrated block of therapy works better for your family.

Programs are shaped around your child’s strengths, needs and everyday life, with clear goals and a plan for measuring progress along the way.

What does an Intensive Program look like?

A clear plan from start to finish.

The exact structure will depend on your child, their goals and the level of intensity that is right for them.

  1. Getting clear on the goals

We meet with you to understand your priorities and agree on the key areas we’ll focus on during the intensive.

  2. Understanding the starting point

Your child completes a screening session so we can understand their current skills and establish a starting point for measuring progress.

  3. A tailored therapy block

Your OT designs an individual program, with frequent sessions focused closely around your child’s goals.

  4. Practical support between sessions

You’ll receive strategies and activities to help build consistency and carry new skills into everyday life.

  5. Reviewing progress and planning what comes next

At the end of the program, we’ll look at progress together, share recommendations and decide on the most helpful next step.

Is Intensive Therapy right for my child?

Intensive Therapy usually involves several sessions each week over a defined period. This might be a shorter school holiday intensive or a block spread across several weeks.

Intensive Therapy may be helpful if your child:

  • would benefit from more frequent opportunities to practise and build a particular skill

  • responds well to consistency, repetition and predictable routines

  • would benefit from focused support around regulation, sensory needs, movement, play or everyday participation

  • finds regular therapy during the school term difficult to fit in.

  • has made slower progress recently and may benefit from a different approach

Your OT will help determine the frequency and structure that is most appropriate for your child. Parents and carers are involved along the way, with practical strategies to help carry what your child is working on into everyday life.

Could a more focused therapy block help your child?

Tell us a little about your child, the goals you’re working towards and what you’re hoping an Intensive Program might support with.

Our team will review your enquiry and help determine whether Intensive Therapy is the right next step.
